The inaugural Jones Cup Junior Invitational, following in the footsteps of the Jones Cup Invitational, was held December 20-22, 2009 on the Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club. The par 70 course played at 7,005 yards. This 54-hole stroke play event features 78 of the country's best male junior golfers. The Jones Cup Junior Invitational is an AJGA ranked event.

Matt Nesmith Goes Wire to Wire for a Jones Cup Junior Victory

In the third annual Jones Cup Junior Invitational, Matt Nesmith of North Augusta, South Carolina grabbed and controlled the lead in one of the deepest fields in junior golf with scores of 69-69-70 on the historic Tom Fazio re-designed Sea Island Seaside course.

Weather conditions in the first round were not quite desirable with cooler north winds ripping across the links style layout rendering low scoring virtually impossible. As the tournament moved forward into the final two rounds, conditions were absolutely ideal, but Nesmith’s consistent and steady play was unbeatable. Worth noting, Nesmith finished runner up in the 2010 event only one stroke off the lead.

All in all 24 different states were represented as well as three foreign countries in this year's event. A victory in the Jones Cup Junior earns an exemption into the highly heralded 2012 Jones Cup held at Ocean Forest Golf Club. We wish Matt and the rest of the field all the best and look forward to another highly competitive event next year.
